The Bean sculpture is one of the most popular site for photography in Chicago. Everybody loves taking pictures of the city reflected in this art piece totally made of steel. I particularly have more fun shooting distorted reflections; images always turn out surreal.
Only recently I learned that “Cloud Gate” is the real name of this impressive sculpture. Chicagoans named it The Bean because of its legume-like shape. The sculpture is the first public artwork in the United States by Anish Kapoo.
Located at Millennium Park, the Cloud Gate (if you will) is composed of 168 stainless steel plates welded together. Its highly-polished exterior has no visible joints. It is 33 feet by 66 feet by 42 feet (10 m × 20 m × 13 m). They say the steel bean gave Chicago a fresh look. I think it gave it a super-cool look!
