I just got back home from my one-week trip to La Quinta, California. Located on the floor of the Coachella Valley, this beautiful city is surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains and almost 45 minutes by car from Palms Springs. I’ve learned that Desert Cahuilla Indians and hunters were the first ancestors of the La Quinta area.  They were one of a few Native American tribes who dug wells, which is perfectly understandable.

Here is a picture I took of my desert-tour guide. I was so impressed by her knowledge and passion for preserving the desert and local culture. I like this portrait a lot … a very dramatic expression. By the way, La Quinta means “the fifth” in Spanish.
